Kunstmuseum Basel
Gegenwart
In the rooms on the first and third floors, works from the holdings of the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung Basel and the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation are exhibited. The museum building was opened in 1980 for this purpose, among others. At that time it was called Museum für Gegenwartskunst, today it bears the name Kunstmuseum Basel — Gegenwart.
The collection works on display were created and acquired over the last four decades. Their grouping and division by rooms was done from a contemporary perspective. In their respective constellations, they evoke themes that shape contemporary social discussions in Basel and elsewhere: Vulnerability, Identity, Changing Perspectives, Digital Culture, Nature, and Global Contexts. With a view to future additions, a temporary space created together with the painter Vivian Suter was added to the collection presentation from loans.
